Saint Peters Engineering College (SPEC)

Saint Peter's Engineering College seems real enough, but its conference marketing leaves something to be desired.  The spam from Hyderabad contains an absurd confidentiality notice, and the conference website (5/22/17) includes the slogan "Giving Wings to Thought" and the observation that "The conference also providing facilities for discussing between various participants to improve their knowledge, research ability and group works/collaboration works." It also includes a picture of a Springer journal, with the caption "Publication Partner" although the connection between the conference and the journal seems to be more aspirational rather than actual -- "About Conference" section explains that "The proceedings of the conference will be submitted to springer journal - Global Social Welfare."

From JUST to WASET

I doubt that Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) is in the predatory camp, but it (or someone else) is tries to insert the following reply to postings on the Forensic Science, Statistics, and the Law blog:

thank you for your useful information we hope from you to visit our new website Jordan University http://www.ju.edu.jo

The replies then give links to JUST's faculties of medicine, arts, law, business, and science.

JUST's webpages do not list many conferences. The only one I saw was the "Second international conference on Advanced Materials: ICAM-2017." The description of the conference reads a lot like those from predatory conference organizers. It fills in the template "After the success of the first [name of conference] held in [city name], it was decided to continue the [conference]. The main goal of the conference is to bring together [types of professionals] and to provide a platform for [types of professionals] from all over the world to present their research results and development activities."

We also are told that "All submitted papers will be peer reviewed, and the accepted papers will be published in a special issue of a Scopus Indexed Journal. The journal offers open access to the publications which make the proceedings available to a wider readership." The open-access publisher is not named.

The Invited Speakers webpage (5/16/2017) begins, "To be announce later on the conference website" but then lists "Cofirmed Speakers." The US ones are

○ Prof. Dr. Renat Sabirianov, University of Nebraska at Omaha
○ Prof. Mark Hernandez, Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering, University of Colorado
○ Prof. Dr. Vinka Oyanedel-Craver, University of Rhode Island
○ Prof. Isabel C. Escobar Ph.D., Professor of Chemical and Materials Engineering, University of Kentucky, and
○ Prof. Dr. Laura Schifman, NRC Associate at U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

UPDATE (12/26/2021): I am happy to report that no further advertisements for JUST have been sent as comments to this blog. The Advanced Conference on International Materials is the work of the World Academy of Science, Engineering, and Technology (WASET). The name of this organization is itself so pretentious and unfocused as to be a danger sign. An entry in Wikipedia describes WASET as an egregiously predatory publisher and conference organizer run by a family in Turkey.

European Conference on Science, Art and Culture (ECSAC)

According to the website, this "conference will bring together leading academic scientists, researchers and scholars in the domain of interest from around the world." This domain is more or less anything you can imagine, since it is nothing less than all of "science, art, and culture." But the breathtaking scope of the conference does not preclude a well-organized affair: "The conference will cover important issues in Scientific Research under various sub-themes." As of 5/14/17, there is no program, and there are no speakers and no accepted papers. (Actually, this is an improvement over sites that give a program with speaker names before even checking with the putative speakers.)

The conference venue is "Prague, Czechia at the Vienna House Diplomat Prague Hotel," but "[t]he official languages of the Conference are English and Turkish." The organizer "For Scientific Issues" is "Assist. Prof. Dr. Atilla Atik, atilla@ecsac.org," at "Adress: Inonu University, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Landscape Architecture." The "Scientific and Arts Committee" includes (from North America):
Prof. Andrew Kusiak, PhD., The University of Iowa, USA.
Prof. Aris Carastathis, PhD., Lakehead University, CANADA.
Prof. Craig Walker, PhD., Queen’s University, CANADA.
Prof. Guy Boy, PhD., Florida Institute of Technology, USA [who is University Professor & Dean of the School of Human-Centered Design, Innovation and Art at FIT].
Prof. Robert L. Elliott, PhD., Tennessee State University, USA.
Prof. William Moylan, PhD., UMass Lowell, USA.
Assoc. Prof. Edward Turgeon, PhD., Algoma University, CANADA.
The ecsac.org domain is registered to Mustafa Ergat, Burhaniye Mah. Enveriye Sk. Palmiye Evleri No:59/A Üsküdar, Istanbul," whose motto is "feel what we show."

The 2018 conference is in Anatalya, Turkey. The domain www.ecsac2018.org is registered to a shell: FBS INC / Whoisprotection.biz, Atasehir Goztepe Nida Kule Is Merkezi Bora Sokak No:1 Kat 7, Istanbul 34704, +90.8502000444, 4694119@whoisprotection.biz.
