International Conference of Information and Communication Technology (ICICT) "focuses to propagate the momentous significance"

The International Conference of Information and Communication Technology (ICICT) plainly is a Chinese venture, with the organizers said to be the Hunan University of Finance and Economics and the IRNet International Academic Communication Centre. One website of the latter organization (http://www.allconfs.org/web_contact_en.asp?uid=4738) gives an address of 洪山区雄楚大道, which refers to the Hongshan district of Wuhan. The "Engilish" version of another website for ICICT (http://www.interscience.org.cn/en/) is mostly hanzi and boasts 7,891 Meetings with 238,531 attendees.

The spam I received invited me and 98 other lucky people to join the Technical Program Committee for the ICICT 2020 scheduled for November in Wuhan. I hope the other sought-after members are more qualified than I. I also hope they find their way to the right conference. A Google search for ICICT 2020 returns a notice that "The International Conference on Information and Computer Technologies (ICICT), is an annual conference hold [sic] each year in United States" (see www.icict.org). If that is not confusing enough, another ICICT 2020 was the 5th Scopus-Indexed IEEE International Conference on Inventive Computation Technologies. It appears to have been a more substantial academic conference, but the Wuhan event "focuses to propagate the momentous significance of Science and Engineering" (https://easychair.org/cfp/ICICT-2020).

Remarks on BIT Conferences from Attendees

The vast majority of the postings on Flaky Academic Conferences are responses to spam to attend conferences whose quality, judging from the spam and the websites, is open to question. Occasionally, I hear from people who attended or come across comments from actual attendees posted elsewhere on the Web. The following are replies on Researchgate.net to Jessica Lilian Bell of Martin Luther University, Halle-Wittenberg. She asked:
Is the BIT World cancer congress (http://www.bitlifesciences.com/cancer2014/) a legitimate conference. If so, what is it like?
She was suspicious because she "was invited to go give a talk, but still have to pay for half the costs." Three people related their experiences:
  • I already attended once, will not ever do it again. It's all business not science. --Carolina Santamaría-Ulloa, University of Costa Rica, Feb. 26, 2016
  • I also get many invitations from them. As a matter of fact, I attended once too in Dalian. Conference actually takes place at the venue and delegates are also around but they just need money for everything from registration to hotel (if you opt for it). They have packages, you can select. They provide the facilities you select in the package. Even the hotel is five star. No problem.
If you are interested in sight seeing, you can go separately. NO need to pay them unnecessary. Now whenever I get an invitation, I just ask them to pay for my visit and cover all my expenses right from the air ticket to accommodation. Then they will not bother you except the one mail that they cannot do this because of financial constraints and all excuses. I just write them if you want to call me as a speaker, just arrange my visit. That's it.
Next time u get an invite, try this. Hopefully you may get a sponsored trip. :) --Alok Nahata, Harisingh Gour University, Oct, 12, 2017
  • Yes its true they are just cheaters, I have attended to WCC 2107 Barcelona, Spain. Once I went their I found that my Abstract was not in the proceeding booklet. Which they later admitted as their mistake and promised me to refund my registration fee, which I haven't received yet. It is fraud institution for sure. --Nekadage Don Amal Wageesha, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, Dec, 14, 2017

The Coronavirus Research International Society Wants an International Congress in San Francisco

Would a real coronavirus research society schedule an in-person international meeting for December 2020? The "Coronavirus Research International Society" has. The spam for "the International Congress on Coronaviruses (ICCovid), to be held on December 7-9, 2020 in San Francisco" describes the society as "a non-profit organization, a global network of researchers and stakeholders sharing the common goal to conquer coronaviruses" and adds that it "facilitates the development of antiviral drugs and vaccines for the prevention and treatment of coronavirus." A webpage at cvriri.com tells us that the Society is the "International hub to save mankind from coronavirus."

The society uses two acronyms: COVRISO and CVIRI and two websites that provide the same contact information. As of June 24, 2020, the Society's website at covriso.com lists no members but invites individuals and corporations to "Join Membership Today" because "The membeship has its privildeges." It lists no one in charge of the Society. The domain name covriso.com was created on May 5, 2020; cviri.com has been around since 2013. A search of Guidestar.org's comprehensive list of nonprofit organizations turns up nothing for this society. Maybe it is too new.

The addresses on the websites are, for "Administrative Offices," 1159 Sonora Court, Suite 345, Sunnyvale, CA 94086, USA, and for "Mailing Address," P.O. Box 151, Moffett Field, CA 94035 USA. The address or telephone numbers of 415-231-6202 or 855-920-4778 (fax) are used by other organizations. Opencorporates has a listing for the Cleantech Institute (Lloyd Tran, agent) and the Alzheimer International Society for this address. DomainBigData lists Lloyd Tran as the historic registrant for the latter society. (Currently, the domains for the coronoavirus society are registered by Godaddy.com.) Lloyd L. Tran describes himself as "a Vietnamese American scientist, with more than 25 year experience in drug discovery and business development in pharmaceutical industry." Currently, "Lloyd focuses on the development of new drugs for the prevention and treatment of Covid-19."

The websites of the Alzheimer International Society and the Coronavirus Research International Society appear to be the intertwined work of the same individual or individuals. The alzint.com/about.html webpage on the Alzheimer Society site begins "Welcome To Coronavirus Research International Society™." The two websites have the same look and feel, with overlapping text and images. The Alzheimer Society International Conference is slated for November at the same airport hotel with the same allegedly discounted room rate.* The two conferences use the same image of the Golden Gate Bridge in their advertising.

NOTE
* The coronavirus conference promises "DISCOUNT ROOM RATES FOR ICCovid 2020 PARTICIPANTS":
As a participant of the ICCovid conference, you will be eligible to have a special discount rate at the SFO Crowne Plaza, if you book through the ICCovid. The discount rate for a standard room is US $179.00 per roocm night plus applicable taxes and fees.
Normal room rates available through the hotel website for the conference dates include:
EXECUTIVE ROOM, 1 QUEEN BED, NON SMOKING, EXECUTIVE LEVEL $160
Book now and save! $147 / night
SUITE, 1 KING BED, NON SMOKING $186
Book now and save! $171 / night
STANDARD ROOM, 1 QUEEN BED, NON SMOKING $183 / night
Included FREE: Breakfast for 2
Perhaps the conference rate is for a higher class of room?

BIT replaces conferences with "empowered products to eliminate the enemy of all mankind, COVID-19"

Even the tenacious Chinese conference spammer, BIT, has had to adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sadly, it has canceled its World congresses for the year. But not its spam. Now it sells "gorgeous products" that will "protect our body from SARS-COV-2 invasion."

    How are you?
With the pandemic of COVID-19 all over the world, we are very worrying about the situation in your country. Although we are also influenced by the Coronavirus outbreak until now, China has control the situation very well. As a conference organization, we basically postpone all our meetings to the end of this year and next year.
Thank you for your support for our past meeting business. Due to restriction ban, you are now isolated at home, it’s probably inconvenience for you to get various kinds of materials. Although we are in a predicament, the progress of science and the revolution of technology will never stop. In the end, we must work together to eliminate the enemy of all mankind, COVID-19.
As an expert, we appreciate your encouragement, concern, suggestion, support and participation in the recent meetings by BIT congress. In addition to doing conferences, our company also has a subsidiary biotech company, which has developed empowered products as Sanitizing Hand Cream, Hydro Gel and sanitary spray to protect our body from SARS-COV-2 invasion. We have launched this products under a trademark as Green Butterfly Sanitizing hand Cream at first, which is very effective against SARS-COV-2, skin fitted friendly, environmentally, and extremely low toxicity under the formulated concentration. Beside the sanitizing hand cream, for the following Hydro gel and spray products, it will protect any skin areas or what your mask and gloves cannot protect, such as ears, forehead, cheeks, neck, ankles, and wrists and so on.
For details of this product, please refer to: http://www.galavon.com/
IF YOU NEED IT, BUY NOW!
Hope this product could play a significant role in the fight against the COVID-19 of your country. Thank you for your support again and tell your friends for these gorgeous products.
Look forward to hear from you soon.

Dear Dr ... This is Vicky. Hope everything goes well from your side!
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we would like to sincerely invite you to deliver a speech at the 13th Annual World Cancer Congress (WCC-2021) will be held during July 20-22, 2021 in Lisbon, Portugal.
After the previous adjustment, we thought the outbreak would be effectively contained in November. However, the COVID-19 has still widely spread in many countries recently with many uncertain factors, November is still not a safety period as it has caused a serious loss for human life and property damage globally, so we have made the difficult decision to postpone this conference again to July 20-22, 2021 after extensive deliberation and careful consideration.
Although only small part speakers have cancelled their trip due to the Coronavirus, but the 90% speakers have agreed to the Postponement. At present, we have confirmed many renowned Speakers showed as below(Only a small part list as below): ...
We look forward to your positive reply with a potential presentation title along with your CV.
    Take care of yourself!

More HEET than Light?

I am not sure what to make of "HEET the International Symposium on Hydrogen Energy and Energy Technologies." Inasmuch as I have no credentials or connection with the subject, the email is rank spam. The organizers are still calling for papers a month before the conference starts.

The domain name heet-18.org is associated with a server in Hong Kong and is registered to Katsuo NAGAHATA, in Zhejiang, China. The web page on contact information reveals little. Inquiries can be directed to Conference Secretary: Ms. Daisy Lee, conf@heet-18.org, and the Organizing Committee of HEET, committee@heet-18.org. Daisy Lee?

The Technical Program Committee is full of individuals with the title "Prof.Dr." It is open to all applicants with "good experience." With a month left to go, the conference has a single "keynote speaker," from West Virginia University. But everyone is invited to apply to "Deliver an English speech relates to the conference theme. Get free conference documents. Get a Speaker Certificate after the conference finishes." If you want to be a "Listener," "HEET 2019 will be an excellent conference. ... You are welcome to attend this great event."

On the positive side, Elsevier publishes an International Journal of Hydrogen Energy that includes special issues of conference papers. A special issue edited by Jennifer Wen and Sergey Grigoriev appears as "The 2nd International Symposium on Hydrogen Energy and Energy Technologies (HEET-2018)" at Volume 44, Issue 56, Pages 29389-29804 (12 November 2019). This is a little weird inasmuch as the second conference has yet to be held. The contents come from the first conference a year earlier.

Coalesce Research Group Aims to "Create Ideal Platform for Scientific Community"

Coalesce Research Group purports to be "an US based" publisher and conference organizer, but the basis for this claim is not clear. The spam contains British spellings and has such telltale constructions as "then revert us back" and "We concern for your privacy." The Linked In page explains that "Coalesce Research Group thrive for excellence in delivering the easier and better networking to move forward in getting the scientific analysis & research work from Academia to Industry & Vice versa."

The address seems to be that of a virtual office in South Carolina. (See https://flakyj.blogspot.com/2019/08/coalesce-research-group-aims-to-create.html.) The key employees named on the company's Linked In page have profiles that place them or their employer in Hyderabad, India. They are Sindoora Jalagam (Offshore Manager), Akhil Srikanth (Social Media Executive), Rezina Alves (Program Manager), K SNEHA (Offshore Project Manager), and Rajesh Varma k (Offshore Operations head). Mr. Srikath came to Coalesce from "OMICS International Conference," where he was "Business Development Executive." (Ms. Alves' profile is different. She thinks that Coalesce is in Brooklyn, where she resides.)*

The journals are mostly nonexistent, but there are a slew of advertised conferences, congresses, and summits. (Please don't ask me what the differences between these types of gatherings are.) Although the subject areas are disparate, the gatherings seem to come in clumps of three held in the same hotel during the same days.

NSMW 2019 provides the premier interdisciplinary forum for scientists, engineers, and practitioners [of what?] to present their latest research results, ideas, developments and applications in all areas of Nanotechnology and Materials Stream. The conference will bring together leading academic scientists, researchers and scholars in the domain of interest from around the world. The conference will focus on evidence-based benefits proven in clinical trials and scientific experiments.
