OMICS Group ordered to pay $50 million for deceptive practices

A few days ago, a U.S. District Court held Srinubabu Gedela and his companies, the OMICS Group, Inc., iMedPub, and Conference Series, liable for over $50 million. It also issued a permanent injunction against many deceptive practices on the part of this nest of companies and the various other entities through which they operate (such as Allied Academies, Meetings International, and Pulsus). Excerpts from the opinion that describe the deceptive practices and other information are posted on the Flaky Academic Journals blog.

Meetings International, where "measurable researchers head out"

The About Us page (5/19/18) for Meetings International promises to teach you "to be even more audacious and bold than you are now and free to grow your mind, grow your business, and grow your bottom-line." The domain Meetingsint.com also is now hidden by a proxy registrant, but in 2017, it was registered to Srinubabu Gedela, Meetings International Pte Ltd, 28 Bukit Pasoh Road, , Yee Lan Court, Singapore. In orher words, it is yet another way to suck people into paying for Omics events. It seems to have taken over the marketing of the International Conference on Forensic Research & Technology from the Omics front, Conference Series.

Just to see who might answer (on 7/11/18), I called the first two numbers on the spam from Forensic Research Conference. The "main theme of the conference is: 'Every Contact Leaves a Trace,'" but these traces produced no contacts. The first number was not intelligible to Google Voice. The second forwarded the call to a different number with no one present and a mailbox that was not working.

The hyperlink in the spam goes to a website for a later conference in Japan rather than the one advertised in Australia. But never fear, the site discusses the Australian market for forensic-science products. The "Scientific Program" tab produces the unedifying response "No pdf." The description of the "Scientific Sessions" (none seem to be scheduled yet) is painful:
