Pulsus Is Another OMICS Tentacle
A reader invited to the group's "Annual congress on Mycology and Fungal Infections" wrote me (10/13/17) that "it took about ten seconds on Google to see the street address (attached photo) and to discover that between 150 and 850 different companies online all claim the same little street address -- that must be one cramped 'Lower Ground Floor'! I think I'll take a pass on this one." The email he received is excerpted below. The questionable address also is used by EuroSciCon.

BIT's World DNA Day Is Back
BIT won't quit.* Now it wants me "to be the chair/speaker at Theme 5-2: Bio-diagnosis and Biotherapy" of its World DNA Day. Being neither a biologist nor a physician, I am not sure how "presenting about DH Kaye," as the emailer of many names (Audrey, Helen, and Jessica) propose, could "create huge opportunities for the famous coastal City by showcasing the growth and breakthrough of life sciences at a time when so many new therapies and diagnostic evaluations are available." Oh well, here's the first email. I anticipate more.

From JUST to WASET
I doubt that Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) is in the predatory camp, but it (or someone else) is tries to insert the following reply to postings on the Forensic Science, Statistics, and the Law blog:
thank you for your useful information we hope from you to visit our new website Jordan University http://www.ju.edu.jo
The replies then give links to JUST's faculties of medicine, arts, law, business, and science.
JUST's webpages do not list many conferences. The only one I saw was the "Second international conference on Advanced Materials: ICAM-2017." The description of the conference reads a lot like those from predatory conference organizers. It fills in the template "After the success of the first [name of conference] held in [city name], it was decided to continue the [conference]. The main goal of the conference is to bring together [types of professionals] and to provide a platform for [types of professionals] from all over the world to present their research results and development activities."
We also are told that "All submitted papers will be peer reviewed, and the accepted papers will be published in a special issue of a Scopus Indexed Journal. The journal offers open access to the publications which make the proceedings available to a wider readership." The open-access publisher is not named.
The Invited Speakers webpage (5/16/2017) begins, "To be announce later on the conference website" but then lists "Cofirmed Speakers." The US ones are
○ Prof. Dr. Renat Sabirianov, University of Nebraska at Omaha
○ Prof. Mark Hernandez, Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering, University of Colorado
○ Prof. Dr. Vinka Oyanedel-Craver, University of Rhode Island
○ Prof. Isabel C. Escobar Ph.D., Professor of Chemical and Materials Engineering, University of Kentucky, and
○ Prof. Dr. Laura Schifman, NRC Associate at U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
UPDATE (12/26/2021): I am happy to report that no further advertisements for JUST have been sent as comments to this blog. The Advanced Conference on International Materials is the work of the World Academy of Science, Engineering, and Technology (WASET). The name of this organization is itself so pretentious and unfocused as to be a danger sign. An entry in Wikipedia describes WASET as an egregiously predatory publisher and conference organizer run by a family in Turkey.
